According to Billboard, Birdman, the man behind Young Money/Cash Money, wants to put his team on the big screen. Apparently, he did an interview for XXL and he discussed his plans for Cash Money Films, which is set to launch some time this year. One project he wants to bring to fruition is a movie that has everybody on the YMCMB team:
With a few much-rumored projects in the works (including one with Omar Epps), he did confirm that he’s looking to put the whole YMCMB roster – which features Drake, Nicki Minaj, Mystikal, Busta Rhymes, Limp Bizkit, and Lil Wayne, among others – into one film, with Weezy as the star. The movie is set to be titled “Rich Gang.”
You know that saying about train wrecks and being unable to turn away from watching one? Yeah, well, this is one train wreck that I will have no problem keeping out of my field of vision.
“We start shooting that in the fall,” Birdman said. “That’s the whole team. The Rich Gang movie is about the team. Everybody is going to be the star of it, but Wayne will be the center of it. It’s about the team, everybody that’s on the label.”
It’s unclear if that means that each artist will adopt some type of persona as part of a scripted film or if the project will be more of a documentary of the label, but it seems like Birdman is leaving that part of the process open-ended, at least for now.
This is not a film that should be anything other than a music documentary. Why? Because Birdman doesn’t seem to think acting classes are important for new actors:
“I would like them for just be themselves,” Birdman continued. “I’m not gonna tell no ni**a to go to acting school. Just be yourself.”
While I respect the fact that this man has built a successful business, this film sounds like a train wreck in the making. It shall not see any of my money.
